The doctoral dissertation „Autonomy of Kosovo and Metohija in Serbia
(1945–1969)” was written based on the research of unpublished archival documents of the
Archives of Yugoslavia, the Archives of Serbia, the Central State Archives of Albania, the
Diplomatic Archives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Serbia, the Archives of Kosovo and
the Archives of Vojvodina, as well as the use of published historical sources, memoirs and
diaries, press, periodicals and historiographical literature.
The research chronologically covers the per iod from 1945, when autonomy was officially
established, to 1969, when it was radically transformed through constitutional changes and the
adoption of the Constitutional Law of the Socialist Autonomous Province of Kosovo. The
main goal of our research was to present the history of Kosovo and Metohija autonomy and
reconstruct the political, social, economic and cultural processes that took place in that area
during the aforementioned period. In add...ition, one of the aims of the research was to shed
light on the institutional, economic and educational strengthening of Kosovo and Metohija
autonomy, which has represented the common interest of local Albanian communist officials
and the most influential federal officials since the second half of the 1950s, and who began to
see Kosovo and Metohija autonomy as an important mean of their policy towards Serbia and
Yugoslavia.
As a part of the research, we tried to determine in what way the intensive economic and
cultural rise of Kosovo and Metohija was reflected towards the security situation, everyday
lifestyle and interethnic relations in villages and cities throughout Kosovo and Metohija.
