dc.description.abstractSindrom policističnih jajnika (engl. Polycystic Ovary Syndrome - PCOS) predstavlja najčešći endokrinološki i metabolički poremećaj žena reproduktivne dobi i vodeći uzrok anovulatornog infertiliteta. Iako je poslednjih godina dosta razjašnjeno o patogenezi, dijagnozi, kliničkim manifestacijama i terapiji PCOS, još uvek postoje mnoge nedoumice i posledične neizvesnosti u izboru terapijskog pristupa u kliničkoj praksi. Metformin (MET) je jedna od prvih terapijskih opcija za tretman PCOS. Neželjeni efekti metformina se vezuju za gastrointestinalne tegobe, koje su nekada razlog prestanka upotrebe. Nedavne studije sugerišu da komplementarni i alternativni tretmani, uključujući biljne lekove, mogu ublažiti simptome PCOS. Aronia Melanocarpa L., koja se obično naziva crna aronija, pripada porodici Rosaceae. Antioksidativna aktivnost crne aronije je prepoznata u mnogim studijama. Ovi podaci su nas doveli do ideje da istražimo potencijalne prednosti primene standardizovanog ekstrakta aronije (SEA) u dehidroepiandrosteronom-indukovanom modelu PCOS kod pacova. Takođe, imali smo za cilj da istražimo sinergističke efekte SEA i MET terapije u ublažavanju reproduktivnih i metaboličkih abnormalnosti kod PCOS. Naši nalazi su potvrdili da je SAE sam ili u kombinaciji sa MET bio u stanju da ublaži reproduktivne i metaboličke poremećaje u modelu PCOS pacova izazvanog DHEA. Efekat samostalno primenjenog SAE nije značajno uticao na efekte MET kod PCOS. Potvrđen je sinergistički efekat ova dva agensa u većini procenjenih karakteristika PCOS. Ovi rezultati mogu poslužiti kao osnova za dalja klinička ispitivanja u vezi sa primenom SAE kod žena sa PCOS kako bi se procenio poseban doprinos ovog ekstrakta reproduktivnim i metaboličkim profilima u ovoj populaciji pacijenata, posebno kod onih sa gojaznim fenotipom PCOS.sr
dc.description.abstractPolycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) is the most common endocrinological and metabolic disorder in reproductive age women, and it is the leading cause of anovulatory infertility. Although the pathogenesis, diagnosis, clinical manifestations and therapy of PCOS have been clarified in recent years, there are still many doubts and consequent uncertainties in the choice of therapeutic approach in clinical practice. Metformin (MET) is one of the first therapeutic options for the treatment of PCOS. Adverse effects of MET are related to gastrointestinal complaints, which are sometimes the reason for cessasion of use. Recent studies suggest that complementary and alternative treatments, including herbal medicines, can alleviate PCOS symptoms. Aronia Melanocarpa L., commonly called black chokeberry, belongs to the Rosaceae family. The antioxidant activity of black chokeberry has been recognized in many studies. These data led us to the idea to investigate the potential benefits of using a standardized Aronia extract (SEA) in a dehydroepiandrosterone-induced PCOS model in rats. Also, we aimed to investigate the synergistic effects of SEA and MET therapy in alleviating reproductive and metabolic abnormalities in PCOS. Our findings confirmed that SAE alone or in combination with MET was able to alleviate reproductive and metabolic disorders in a DHEA-induced PCOS rat model. The effect of selfadministered SAE did not significantly influence the effects of MET in PCOS. A synergistic effect of these two agents has been confirmed in most of the PCOS features assessed. These results may serve as a basis for further clinical trials regarding the use of SAE in women with PCOS to evaluate the specific contribution of this extract to reproductive and metabolic profiles in this patient population, especially those with an obese PCOS phenotype.en
