Childhood obesity has taken on epidemic proportions and is currently
one of the most common public health problems. Being overweight
negatively affects the fitness parameters of children of younger school
age. The aim of this study was to determine the relationships and
influences of anthropometric characteristics on the fitness parameters
of boys aged seven to ten years. The sample of respondents was taken
from the populations of overweight and obese boys, and a total of 931
respondents participated. Groups of subjects were selected based on
the degree of nutrition determined by BMI. To determine the
anthropometric characteristics of the subjects, parameters were used
to assess the longitudinal, transverse and circular dimensionality of
the skeleton, as well as body weight and subcutaneous adipose tissue.
The assessed fitness parameters are muscle fitness, body composition
and cardiorespiratory fitness. Appropriate statistical procedures have
been applied for statistical data processi...ng. Canonical correlation
analysis was used to determine the relationship between
anthropometric characteristics and fitness parameters. Regression
analysis was applied to determine the influence of anthropometric
characteristics on fitness parameters. By analyzing the results, it can
be concluded that in each group of subjects, body weight is an
interfering factor when it comes to fitness parameters. The results of
the canonical correlation analysis show a statistically significant
correlation between anthropometric characteristics and fitness
parameters at each age tested. By analyzing the results of regression
analysis, it can be concluded that there is a statistically significant
influence of anthropometric characteristics on the fitness parameters
of boys aged seven to ten years.
