The subject of this research is ambivalent sexism which consists of hostile and benevolent sexism and is expressed through negative and positive prejudices. In this thesis we point out the shortcomings of operationalization and conceptualization of ambivalent sexism, applying the analysis to the case of Montenegro. The aim was to open the space for better understanding, as well as political implementation of this concept, in order to redress gender injustice, in accordance with the assumptions of the feminist theory of Nancy Fraser which is our point of departure. The most important contribution of the socio-psychological theory of ambivalent sexism is a conceptualization of benevolent sexism which is expressed through a positive tone, but has negative impact on gender equality. The central original contribution of this thesis is that we have confirmed through the theoretical analysis and through empirical research the hypothesis that Ambivalent Sexism Inventory (ASI) does not represent a valid operationalization of ambivalent sexism. Our research results show that a large number of items in this scale does not measure sexism. We confirmed that the contextualization of the operationalization is necessary because certain attitudes from the ASI (Ambivalent Sexism Inventory), which was created in the USA, are not applicable in the context of Montenegrin society. There are also some important aspects of ambivalent sexism in Montenegro that are absent from the ASI, but should be considered and explored. In addition, we have pointed out the limitations of the structural explanation of the ambivalent sexism theory according to which ambivalent sexism is the result of the existence of men's structural power, different gender roles and sexual reproduction. We conluded that this explanation ignores the importance of existence of different values and ideological influences (eg. chivalry, enlightenment) on the ways of manifestations of sexism throughout history. Empirical results show that ambivalent sexism does not manifest itself in three dimensions like the theory of ambivalent sexism predicted.en
