Abstract
We have synthesized a library of 18 derivatives from (R)-3-hydroxyoctanoic acid, monomer of bacterial polymer poly(hydroxyalkanoate). All compounds were characterized and tested for their antimicrobial and anti-proliferative activity. In order to examine the significance of the configuration of the chiral center of the starting acid in the biological activity, (S)-methyl-3-hydroxyalkanoate was synthesized. Within the PhD thesis the possibility of conjugation 3-hydroxy alkanoic acids of different chain length and chemically synthesized 3-chloro octanoic acid with anticancer peptide was investigated, and impact of conjugation in changing biological activity of the peptide.
