Abstract

The aim of this PhD thesis was to give a contribution to the generation of mathematical models, which provide the ability to control the emission of pollutants, as well as to control the adverse effects of industrial production and traffic exhaust emissions to the environment, especially to the health of people who are living in urban areas. In the first part of the dissertation are given basis for a better understanding of the problems related to air pollution, ground-level ozone and its harmful effects. In the next chapters are shown various factors that contribute to ozone formation and possible solutions to environmental problems. Different techniques, like multivariate, multicriteria and nonlinear methods, were used, in order to analyze the problem. Models which are used are those which for a given data set and given research provide the best results. Data were collected at automatic measuring stations, which are located in three urban areas. Selected urban areas are c...haracterized by different pollution sources, in that way all factors that can contribute to ozone formation were tested. Based on collected data, representative database was formed, which enabled further analysis. The results showed that, based on the available data set, it can be determined the source of primary pollutants, which contribute to ozone formation, and make predictions of future ozone trends.
