dc.description.abstractReciprocating internal combustion engines are dominantly applied in road transport means.Their mass use rapidly depletes the energy resources and creates ecological problems. Strict regulations regarding emissions of carbon-dioxide, toxic gases, particulates and noise are effective today. Modern technology has not jet given the suitable alternative in terms of performance and overall energy efficiency, so the internal combustion engines will be the basis for vehicle drives for many years to come. Internal combustion engine’s economy and emissions largely depend on the characteristics of the work process, thus development in this area has a great potential. In addition to original Otto and Diesel concepts, work processes combining their good qualities are also in use. Increase of efficiency and reduction of raw emissions are achieved by application of multiprocessing working principle, where the working zone of the engine is divided into zones with different operating modes. The subject of this dissertation is to identify the influence of the working parameters and the type of fuel (classical or bio-fuels) on characteristics of individual work processes of multiprocessing Otto/Diesel engine. The research was conducted on original experimental engine with application of standard European stationary test. The influence of compression ratio, type of fuel and control parameters on efficiency and exhaust emissions is observed. The summarized results of the test and the results obtained in individual test regimes are shown. Also, an example of defining the Otto or Diesel working areas is given according to the criteria of efficiency and particulate emissions.en
