Биографија Захарија Орфелина као припадника прве генерације
просветитеља у српском друштву 18. века у великој мери је реконструисана. Па
ипак, широк интелектуални простор који је заузимао у свом времену, као и велика
литерарна и ликовна заоставштина, допринели су да знатан број квалитетних
студија остане незапажен, јер су се у међувремену изгубиле главне нити-водиље
које би разјасниле његову интелектуалну, културну и уметничку позицију. Овај
рад је усмерен ка покушају ре/конструкције Орфелинове интелектуалне
биографије, са позиција општих и специфичних знања која су о њему прикупљена
током вишедеценијског истраживања различитих генерација. Орфелинова
биографија у раду није изложена хронолошки, већ феноменолошки и проблемски,
док је његов опус интерпретиран у складу са тако замишљеним биографским
приповедањем. Из те основе се креће у даљу критичку анализу различитих
дискурса о њему и ре/конструкцију његове интелектуалне биографије у
различитим животним раздобљима. Уочавају се одређене ф...илозофске, социјалне,
уметничке, друштвене и идејне категорије важне за интерпретацију његовог
интелектуалног профила. Фокус рада је на Орфелину као историјској личности, а
највећа пажња је посвећена разумевању његове индивидуалности и
реконструкцији његовог идејног, менталног и у најширем смислу, културног
склопа. Из тог разлога је анализа његових уметничких дела у раду заступљена
само у мери потребној да би се разумела личност која се крије иза њих.
Самосврховита анализа појединичних дела уз помоћ богате методологије
хуманистичких дисциплина, представљала би оптерећење како за читаоца тако и
за сам текст, при чему не би доприносила његовом квалитету. Рад представља
интелектуалну биографију једног од првих српских просвећених интелектуалца и
уметника из 18. века, са свим елементима и апаратуром коју такав тип текста
изискује.
Although Zaharija Orfelin belonged to the first generation of Serbian men of
letters in the 18th century, his biography had to a large extent to be reconstructed. His
activities covered a wide intellectual space and he left numerous literary and art works.
However, precisely this abundance of different material meant that a significant number
of good quality studies of various aspects of his life remained unnoticed, because in the
meantime the framework within which one could interpret his intellectual, cultural and
artistic activities has been lost. This thesis is an attempt to re/construct Orfelin’s
intellectual biography starting from the general and specialised knowledge on Orfelin
which has been collected by different generations of researchers over several decades.
The biography has been written not in a chronological order, but following phenomena
and issues related to his life. The body of his work has also been interpreted in relation
to this form of biographical narration. Fr...om this basis I have embarked on the further
critical analysis of different discourses about Orfelin and on the re/construction of his
intellectual biography during different periods of his life. What emerges are ideas and
certain philosophical, social, artistic and cultural categories significant for the
interpretation of his intellectual profile. The focus of the thesis is on Orfelin as a
historical figure, and the greatest attention is given to understanding his individuality
and to the reconstruction of his ideas, his psychological and, in the widest sense of the
word, cultural identity. For this reason I have analysed his art works only to the extent
necessary to understand the person who was behind them. Detailed analysis of
individual works using the rich methodology of humanistic disciplines would only have
clogged the text and presented a burden for the reader, without contributing to the
quality of the argument. The thesis is the intellectual biography of one of the first
Serbian man of letters, and contains all the necessary elements and the apparatus which
that type of work requires.
