Abstract
masom u svetu bilo 2 milijarde odraslih osoba i 340 miliona dece.

children were overweight or with obesity in 2016. Besides overnutrition, the main reason for the increase in the prevalence of overweight and obesity is insufficient physical activity, which was the focus of this investigation. Objective The objective of this study was to investigate the prevalence of overweight and obesity in representative samples of children regularly involved in youth sports (minimum 2 years and minimum 3 hours a week) and children without any form of organized physical activity, aged 9-15 years. The most important goal was to investigate whether different types, quantities, and intensities of sports affect the body weight status of children. One of the goals was to examine the differences between the most commonly used methods for assessment of the body weight status from the value of the body mass index: definitions of the International Obesity Task Force, World Health Organization, and US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Material and methods Using Int...ernational Obesity Task Force criteria, we have identified body weight status in a group of 2,893 children aged 9-15 years participating in 27 different sports and within a group of 4,987 non-active children of the same age, whose only physical activity was classes of physical education at school, two times 45 minutes per week. We have compared the prevalence of overweight and obesity between these groups, as well as between genders and different forms and intensities of sports, within the group of active children. For that, we have divided active children into subgroups according to two sports classifications: Mitchell`s and one by the European Association of Preventive Cardiology, to examine how various sports influence the body weight status of children. Furthermore, we were using the Compendium of Physical Activities of Children and Adolescents for numerical expression of the quantity of sports activities and explored its relationship with the prevalence of overweight and obesity. In the end, the nutritional status of all participants was determined by applying the definitions of the World Health Organization, US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and International Obesity Task Force. Results We have found lower prevalence of overweight (Χ2 = 41.689, DF = 1, p < 0.001), as well as prevalence of obesity (Χ2 = 175.184, DF = 1, p < 0.001) in physically active children compared with their non-active counterparts. Overweight had the highest prevalence in sports with a high static component. However, in the classification of sports by the European Association of Preventive Cardiology, the majority of overweight children were not found in strength sports, but in mixed sports, both in boys (p = 0.003), and in girls (p= 0.043)...
