Potential of Alyssum murale Waldst. and Kit., Thlaspi kovatsii Heuffel and Lepidium campestre (L.) R.Br. (Brassicaceae) from serpentine habitats in Bosnia and Herzegovina for metal bioaccumulation

dc.description.abstractU ovom radu istraživan je bioakumulacioni potencijal vrsta Alyssum murale Waldst. and Kit., Lepidium campestre (L.) R. Br. i Thlaspi kovatsii Heuff. (syn. Noccaea kovatsii (Heuff.) F. K. Mey.) iz porodice Brassicaceae sa serpentinitskih staništa u Bosni i Hercegovini. S obzirom na značaj koji bi ove vrste mogle da imaju u fitoremedijaciji i fitominiranju, osnovni ciljevi ovog rada bili su: a) istraživanje fizičkih i hemijskih osobina zemljišta sa izabranih serpentinitskih lokacija u Bosni i Hercegovini na kojima je zabeleženo prisustvo ovih vrsta; b) ispitivanje nivoa akumulacije i translokacije metala u biljkama; c) procenjivanje potencijalne primene lokalnih populacija za fitoremedijaciju i fitomajning. Uzorci istraživanih biljaka sakupljeni su u periodu od 2013. do 2014. godine sa 10 serpentinitskih lokaliteta u Bosni i Hercegovini. Analize zemljišta obuhvatile su određivanje mehaničkog sastava, pH vrednosti, organskog ugljenika, humusa, P2O5 i K2O, pristupačnog Ca i Mg, kao i utvrđivanje koncentracija ukupnih i dostupnih metala karakterističnih za serpentinitsku podlogu. Analize biljnog materijala obuhvatile su određivanje koncentracije navedenih elemenata u podzemnim i nadzemnim delovima istraživanih vrsta. Po svojim fizičkim i hemijskim karakteristikama, zemljišta sa svih ispitivanih lokaliteta spadaju u tipična serpentinitska zemljišta. Na osnovu rezultata hemijskih analiza biljnog materijala, može se zaključiti da analizirane populacije svih istraživanih vrsta imaju potencijal za fitostabilizaciju zemljišta opterećenih toksičnim metalima koji su tipično prisutni u visokim koncentracijama na ultramafitskoj podlozi. Kao potvrđeni hiperakumulatori nikla, istraživane vrste se mogu koristiti za fitoekstrakciju i komercijalno dobijanje ovog metala koristeći tehnologiju agromajninga, pogotovo vrsta A. murale koja se odlikuje najizraženijim potencijalom za akumulaciju ovog elementa i najvećom biomasom.sr
dc.description.abstractWithin this study, the bioaccumulation potential of three species from the family Brassicaceae, Alyssum murale Waldst. and Kit., Lepidium campestre (L.) R. Br. and Thlaspi kovatsii Heuff. (syn. Noccaea kovatsii (Heuff.) F. K. Mey.), from the serpentines in Bosnia and Herzegovina was investigated. Given the importance that these species might have in phytoremediation and phytomining, the main objectives of this study were: a) research of physical and chemical properties of soil from selected serpentinite locations in Bosnia and Herzegovina where the presence of these species has been recorded; b) examination of the levels of accumulation and translocation of metals in plants; c) assessing the potential use of local populations for phytoremediation and phytomining. Samples of investigated plant species were collected in the period from 2013 to 2014 from 10 serpentinite localities in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Soil analyzes included: determination of mechanical composition, pH values, organic carbon, humus, P2O5, K2O, available Ca and Mg, as well as total and available concentrations of metals that are characteristic for the serpentinite substrate. Analyses of plant material included determining the concentration of these elements in roots and shoots of the investigated species. According to their physical and chemical characteristics, soils from all examined localities belong to typical ultramafic substrates. Based on the results of chemical analyses of plant material, it can be concluded that the analysed populations of all investigated species have the potential for phytostabilization of soils loaded with toxic metals that are typically present in high concentrations on ultramafic substrate. As confirmed nickel hyperaccumulators, the investigated species can be used for phytoextraction and commercial fabrication of this metal using agromining technology, especially the species A. murale, which is characterized by the most pronounced potential for accumulation of this element and the highest biomass.en
