i privatnim zbirkama.
oblika donje vilice u toku procesa s...pecijacije.
ženki džinovskog jelena potvrdili smo prisustvo moguće intraspecijske diferencijacije i polnog dimorfizma u
obliku.
permutacioni test nije dao statističku potvrdu alometrije.
emphasis on mammoths and giant deer) found in the Serbian territory. This kind of fossil material went
through this kind of analysis for the first time. The processed material was collected in the territory of Serbia
and stored in museums and private collections. The analysis was performed only on well-preserved
specimens of the lower jaws of successive mammoth species as well as on the well-preserved skulls of male
and female giant deer. Most of the results obtained have been published or are in the process of being
published.
The application of geometric morphometrics was done on two groups of fossil material.
In the first, mammoth-group, results were obtained that indicate significant morphological differences in two
successive species (Mammuthus trogontherii and Mammuthus primigenius). These differences can be
interpreted as a consequence of the effect of paleoecological factors, primarily a different diet, on changes in
the shape of the lower jaw during the speciation process. Als...o, ontogenetic changes of shape within the
species Mammuthus primigenius are illustrated in detail, but without statistical confirmation of these results. Although the analysis of fossil material is largely problematic due to the availability of a small number of
samples and the fact that the material is heavily damaged, our sample has proved sufficient to illustrate the
morphological changes between the two successive species and to provide statistical confirmation of these results.
By applying geometric morphometrics in the second, deer-group, on the well-preserved skulls of male and
female giant deer, we confirmed the presence of possible intraspecific differentiation and sexual dimorphism in shape. The two possible subspecies differed in overall skull elongation and robustness. The main
difference between the sexes was related to the elongation of the maxillary region, as well as an increase in
the orbital region in females and the widening of the basicranial region in males. In larger males, these changes are more pronounced. Due to the small sample size, the statistical significance of sexual
dimorphism in size could not be determined and the permutation test did not give statistical confirmation for
allometry.
