The effect of drought on physiological and biochemical indicators of tomato (Lycopersicon esculentum L.) fruit quality

dc.description.abstractCilj ove disertacije je bio da se detaljnije prouči efekat suše na neke od najvažnijih fizioloških i biohemijskih pokazatelja kvaliteta plodova paradajza (jedinjenja primarnog i sekundarnog metabolizma), a od kojih zavise njihova nutritivna i lekovita svojstva. Za istraživanja su odabrana 4 genotipa paradajza iz programa MAGIC TOM populacije, koja predstavlja veliki izvor genetičkog diverziteta paradajza i koristi se u savremenim selekcionim programima. Odabrana su 2 genotipa sa krupnim plodovima (LA0147 i Levovil) i 2 sa čeri (koktel) plodovima (LA1420 i Plovdiv). Kako u reakcijama biljaka na sušu, uključujući paradajz, u velikoj meri utiče hormon abscisinska kiselina (ABA), cilj ove disertacije je bio i da se ispita kako se ABA-mutacija (smanjena sinteza ovog hormona) odražava na plodove paradajza. Zato su za istraživanja odabrani ABA-mutant (flacca) i divlji tip (Ailsa Craig). Biljke su u fazi antezisa druge cvetne grane izlagane dejstvu umerene suše (MAGIC TOM genotipovi, Ailsa Craig i flacca) i jake suše (Ailsa Craig i flacca), dok su kao kontrola praćene reakcije biljaka u optimalnim uslovima vodnog režima. Efekat suše je, uporedo sa plodovima, ispitivan i kod listova. Ova ispitivanja su obuhvatila efekte suše na: parametre vodnog režima biljaka i brojne fiziološke i biohemijske pokazatelje, uključujući i koncentraciju ABA i antioksidativnu aktivnost u listovima. Efekat suše na plodove je, pored uticaja na njihove morfološke karakteristike, uključio ispitivanja komponenti primarnog metabolizma (šećera i organskih kiselina) i sekundarnog metabolizma (karotenoida i vitamina C), kao i koncentraciju ABA i antioksidativnu aktivnost. Poređenja efekata suše na listove MAGIC TOM genotipova su pokazala da su se razlike ispoljile na nivou vodnog režima biljaka i fizioloških procesa, a nešto manje na nivou biohemijskih i antioksidativnih procesa. Genotipske razlike su se ispoljile i kod efekta suše na plodove MAGIC TOM genotipova i to tako da je kod čeri plodova došlo do veće redukcije morfologije plodova i određenih komponenti primarnog metabolizma (organske kiseline) u odnosu na krupne plodove. Sušom indukovana veća akumulacija komponenti sekundarnog metabolizma kod čeri plodova, kao i njihov veći antioksidativni kapacitet, mogu u određenom stepenu da kompenzuju manju veličinu ovih plodova u odnosu na krupne plodove...sr
dc.description.abstractThe aim of this dissertation was to study in more detail the effect of drought on some of the most important physiological and biochemical indicators of the quality of fruit tomatoes (compounds of primary and secondary metabolism), and of which their nutritional and health benefit properties depend. For the research, 4 tomato genotypes were selected from the MAGIC TOM population program, which is a great source of tomato genetic diversity and therefore is used in modern selection programs. The genotypes selected were two tomatoes with large fruits (LA0147 and Levovil) and two cherry (cocktail) tomatoes (LA1420 and Plovdiv). As the reactions of plants to drought, including tomato, are largely affected by the hormone abscisic acid (ABA), the aim of this dissertation was also to examine how the ABA mutation (reduced synthesis of this hormone) is reflected on the tomato fruits. Therefore, the ABA-mutant (flacca) and the wild-type (Ailsa Craig) were selected for research. At the stage of 2nd flower truss anthesis, plants were exposed to moderate water deficit (MAGIC TOM genotypes, Ailsa Craig and flacca) and severe water deficit (Ailsa Craig and flacca), while the reactions of plants under the optimal water regime were used as control. In addition to fruits, the effect of drought was investigated in the leaves. These studies included the effects of drought on: parameters of the water regime of plants and numerous physiological and biochemical indicators, as well as the concentration of ABA and antioxidant activity. The effect of drought on the fruits, in addition to influencing their morphological characteristics, included assessments of the primary metabolism components (sugar and organic acids) and secondary metabolism (carotenoids and vitamin C), as well as the concentration of ABA and antioxidant activity. Comparison of drought effects on MAGIC TOM genotypes showed that differences were observed at the level of the water regime of plants and physiological processes, and somewhat less at the level of biochemical and antioxidant processes...en
