In the process of building of Socialism, sport have had in Yugoslavia an significant role. In idea, Yugoslav socialist sport should have been mass and versatile: an instrument for building a new human – Homo Yugoslovenicus. Besides that, it was also used as an powerful propaganda tool for gaining new Party supporters, dominantly among youth. In its realization, it was market with the cult of the leader Josip Broz Tito and with the ideology of Titoism especially through mass manifestations such as Titos relay and rallies. The imperative of mass participation had remained unfulfilled minding the fact that the majority of population had had interest for sport but had not practiced it. Adding to this, women’s sport due to prejudices of rural society remain undeveloped. The building of versatile athlete was tried with projects such as the Badge of Athletes and Gymnastic Alliance, but these project had all failed when confronted with football which has become an favorite recreation of the majority of the population of Yugoslavia. Furthermore, sport was also to an significant extent militarized and was even equalized with pre military training. Militarization have had also an positive sides having in mind that it gave significance to sport in an dominantly rural society where sport was underrated on regular basis. Underrating was most obvious in the field of school physical culture which was always a subject of less importance, for which a part of responsibility lies within the catastrophic personnel policy. Sport was dominantly managed by dilettantes and on an amateur basis which had made scientific approach to this area impossible. When it comes to elite sport, athletes had established themselves as an elite social layer which had justified its position with the firm alliance with Yugoslav diplomacy. All stages of foreign policy changes that Yugoslavia went in the years 1945–1953 elite athletes had followed and remained faithful to the policy that was dictated by the Partyen
