The study is based on the assumption, confirmed by the data collected from a number of relevant scientific and professional sources, as well as on the results of the empirical research conducted for the purposes of this paper, about the specificity of the police profession, which is mainly determined by three aspects: the risk of injury and loss of life, difficulty in harmonizing professional and family life, and stress - as a universal feature, regardless of gender, type of workplace, level of education, position at work, age and work experience, marital and family status, and other socio-demographic characteristics of police employees. In most countries, on the other hand, the status of women in the police is also specific, because their integration into this traditional male profession, that started more than a century ago, has not been completed to this day. Therefore, in an attempt to ensure gender equality, they associate in organizations on different levels - from local to global, they exchange experience and provide mutual support. The three aforementioned determining aspects are in the focus of attention of associations and networks, but not to the extent that is sufficient for their significant improvement. The key results of this research indicate that international associations, as recognized agents of change, could be more effective in improving the stated work conditions - if this topic would be systematically represented in their goals and mandates. Also, it is essential that the activities concerning the topic should be carried out as part of the partnership between women and men employed in the police, since both of them are exposed to the same conditions, but not always endangered in the same way, and since they endure different negative consequences (physical, psychological, social, etc.). One of the important conclusions also refers to the possibility of modeling an international association that could successfully address the issues of improving the work conditions.en
