Doktorska disertacija Leksičke slivenice u savremenom engleskom i srpskom jeziku:
analiziraju, najpre individualno, a zatim i u kontrastu, određeni formalni, semantički
i sociolingvistički aspekti slivenica iz dva tipološki različita jezika, a sve u cilju
utvrđivanja njihovih sličnosti i razlika.
i časopisa, registra onlajn komunikacije i književno-umetničkog registra.
Formalna, semantička i sociolingvistička analiza engleskih i srpskih slivenica
povoljnih društvenih uslova i sve intenzivnijih englesko-srpskih međujezičkih
The doctoral dissertation Lexical Blends in Contemporary English and Serbian: Structural,
Semantic, and Sociolinguistic Aspects aims at contrasting lexical blends in two languages.
Specifically, it qualitatively and quantitatively analyzes, first individually and then in contrast,
certain formal, semantic, and sociolinguistics aspects of blends from the two typologically
different languages, with the aim of determining their similarities and differences. The data
include 800 blends (400 blends from each language). The blends are collected from both written
and spoken language sources and from four different sociolinguistic registers (100 blends per
register), namely the register of advertising, newspaper and magazine register, online
communication register, and the register of literature and art.
The analyses have shown that there are very similar general tendencies in the formation of
English and Serbian blends, in terms of the most productive blending mechanism, the percentage
of pho...nemic-graphemic overlap, the phonemic and graphemic similarities between the source
words as well as between each source word and the blend, the (most frequent) morphosyntactic
classes the blends belong to, their relative semantic transparency, as well as morphosyntactic and
semantic headedness. The differences in the structure and semantics between the English and
Serbian blends are primarily perceived at the register level and in the number of hybrid (English-
Serbian) examples.
The research results suggest that contemporary Serbian, which is believed to have borrowed
the structural pattern of blending from English in the context of favorable social circumstances
and intensive language contact, does not fall behind English with its structural and semantic
repertoire of blends, most of which are formed using native source words.
