APSTRAKT:
ABSTRACT:
Recent studies in marketing have found that the parasocial relationship between consumers
and influencers is essential for influencers' effect on consumer behavior. The present doctoral
dissertation examines this relationship in detail.
First, it aims to explore how the content created by the influencers and the influencers' and the
followers' characteristics affect the parasocial relationship between consumers and
influencers. Secondly, it looks at how the parasocial relationship affects the attitude towards
the brand that the influencer endorses and the consumer's purchase intention.
Statistical analyses confirmed the influence of the factors mentioned above on the
parasocial relationship of consumers with influencers and the influence of the
parasocial relationship on the consumers’ attitudes towards the brand and purchase intention.
Regarding the intensity of the parasocial relationship, differences were found among the
demographic segments of the respondents. Additionall...y, it was found that the intensity of the
parasocial relationship with the influencer is the highest when deciding to buy cosmetic
products. Finally, individuals highly value the influencer's opinion, which is the second most
valued opinion immediately after the family's opinion. Friends have a slightly weaker influence
than the influencers, while colleagues have the lowest impact on purchase decisions.
A holistic research approach generated significant theoretical, managerial, and social
implications. The research findings contribute to the existing scientific knowledge.
Furthermore, they provide valuable insight for the management regarding digital marketing
strategies and emphasize the importance of social responsibility in implementing influencer
marketing strategy.
