In this dissertation, a new, simple, economical and environmentally friendly
method for the synthesis of polymer nanocomposites has been presented. Isotactic
polypropylene (iPP) and atactic polystyrene (aPS) were separately immersed in three
saturated water solutions of alkali metal salts (LiCl, NaCl, and KCl) and three saturated
water solutions of transition metals salts (MnCl2, FeCl2, NiCl2) at two temperatures
(23ºC and 90ºC) and three DC electrical potentials (+4 kV, -4 kV and ground
potential). The presence and quantification of metals in the polymer matrices were
carried out by ICP-OES. The obtained concentration values were from
1,82·10-9 mol/cm3 to 1,17·10-5 mol/cm3. By the TOF-SIMS method, an appropriate
distribution and dispersion were established. By the TЕМ method, spherical
nanoparticles with core-shell morphology with dimensions from 3 nm to 20 nm in
diameter have been determined. A comparative analysis showed the connection between
values of ε’ and concentration of metal...s in the nanocomposite samples. It has been
shown that samples with the highest concentrations of metal have the highest values of
ε’, while the samples with the lowest concentrations have the lowest values of ε’.
Temperature frequency dependence analysis of ε’ and tan δ of untreated and treated
samples was conducted and it was found that the values of ε’ in whole temperature
frequency range are higher for nanocomposites, while tan δ are higher for untreated
polymers. Based on the current-voltage characteristics, it was concluded that the
prepared nanocomposites show higher values of the electrical current density. The new
measurement experimental method introduced parameters more sensitive to changes in
the electrical properties then ε’ and tan δ. This method allows detection of small
changes in the dielectric properties of the polymer, polymer nanocomposites, and other
materials.
