Džon Kits, najmlađi u plejadi čuvenih engleskih romantičara, tokom svog kratkog života nije doživeo književnu afirmaciju niti komercijalni uspeh. Zbog nepovoljnih ocena kritike koja je Kitsu zamerala lirsku eksplicitnost nazivajući ga pripadnikom ,,Kokni’’ pesničke škole, decenijama nakon njegove smrti u javnosti je preovladao stav da je ,,sirotog’’ Kitsa ,,ubila’’ kritika. Stvaranju takvog uverenja javnosti dodatno je doprinelo mišljenje njegovih najbližih prijatelja, ali i uticajnih umetnika tog vremena, Šelija i Bajrona...
During his lifetime, John Keats, the youngest of the big constellation of the famous English Romantic writers, achieved neither critical appraisal nor commercial success. Due to bad reviews which reprimanded Keats for his lyrical explicitness labeling him a ,,Cockney’’ poet, in the decades that followed his death, the general public opinion was that ,,poor’’ Keats was ,,killed’’ by negative reception. Additional negative atmosphere was created by the same opinion of his closest friends and influential artists of that time, such as Shelley and Byron...
