Seascapes / into the wave, више медијска просторна инсталација

Abstract

Уметнички пројекат Seascapes/Into The Wave развија окружење које би посматрача звуком и визуелним елементима изместило у позицију пропитивања односа између сликарског платна/фотографије и филма/видеа, доводећи га до руба нестајања такве границе. Рад ће, формално, у свом садржају, представљати истраживање у пољу цртежа и видео слике, и чулног у пољу осећања које настаје када стварамо у медију видеа и слике. Пре свега, рад ће директно подсећати да ствари не морају да буду физички приказане да бисмо знали да су присутне. Поступком редукције, тј. селективног и контролисаног усмеравања пажње, фокус посматрача биће померен са читања наратива ка настанку амбијента. Пројекат ће се реализовати у галеријском простору у виду две одвојене инсталације, односно цртежа који су рађени на белом мермеру, “carrara”, и једног видео рада, заједно чинећи аудиовизуелну вишемедијску целину. Цртежи и видео рад су реализовани разлагањем више стотина фотографија на цртеже једне фигуре и цртеже пејзажа са морских обала. Бележењем свих промена које су се догађале у самом процесу фотографисања, а потом цртања и брисања садржаја, финални уметнички рад је доведен до финих ликовних статичних и покретних слика које заједно са звучним садржајем чине целовиту слику и идеју о фрагментирању једног забележеног времена. Цртеж фигуре на обали која је представљена на белом мермеру, поставља фундаменталну дуалност: цртеж је уједно и реалан и имагинаран, дескриптиван и симболичан, манифестација меморије и заборављања. Посебно интересовање у целокупном раду посвећено је односу време-меморија. Сам по себи овај уметнички пројекат нема наративне теме које се намећу и читају. Флуидно протицање, без наглих смењивања слика, стапање и ненаметање појединих предмета, спори покрети и градација звука инсталације увлаче нас у садржај рада. На тај начин значење овог рада постаје интеракција између уметника и посматрача.

The artistic project Seascapes/Into the Wave attempts to develop an environment by the means of sound and visual elements where the viewer is put into a position of examining the relationships between the canvas/photograph and film/video and brought to the threshold of the existence of such a boundary. The work will formally, through its content, represent research in the field of drawing and the video-image, along with the sensory part of feelings that comes into being when working in the media of video and painting. The work will principally attempt to straightforwardly remind us that things do not necessarily need to be physically present for us to know that they are there. By the means of reduction or selecting and controlling how attention is directed, the focus of the viewer will ultimately be shifted from reading the narrative towards experiencing the ambient. The project will be executed in a gallery space and will consist of two separate installations – drawings made on white “carrara” marble and one video work, together creating an audiovisual multimedia ensemble. Particular attention throughout the whole work was dedicated to exploring the time-memory relationship. The drawings and video work were made by deconstructing several hundreds of photographs to representations of human figures and seaside landscapes. By documenting all changes that happen during the photography process, followed by drawing, reduction and erasing content – the final artwork is brought to fine, static and moving video images alike, which supported by sound give an insight into the idea of the inevitability of how fragmented documenting time can be in the artistic process. The drawing of the human figure on the shore, represented on white marble, lays out a fundamental duality: drawing is both real and imaginary, descriptive and symbolic, a manifestation of memory and forgetting. The artistic project Seascapes/Into the Wave does not possess any intrinsic narratives that impose themselves or direct the attention of the viewer. Flowing passing images, devoid of rapid transitions and unimposing individual scenes, slowed down motion and gradually progressing sound all together draw the recipient towards the inherent content. In this way, the problem of the artwork’s interactivity becomes a significant segment to be investigated within the PhD thesis project.
