Health equity is determined by the absence of unfair differences that can be avoided. Disparities in health are often influenced by different factors with the most important being social, economic, demographic and geographic characteristics. These factors are usually influenced by different political, historical and environmental issues, which along biological and behavioral factors largely shape the health potential of the population. Objectives: Тhe aim of this study is to assess regional disparities between and within theWestern Balkan countries regarding growth indicators and to assess the association between growth indicators of Western Balkan children aged < 5 years and social determinants of health such as ethnicity, gender, mother’s education, wealth status, country, region and type of settlement. Methods: This study used a cross-sectional secondary data analysis design to measure population samples from MICS 4 and MICS 5 (UNICEF) survey, that was implemented between 2010–2014 in Western Balkan countries (Serbia, Macedonia, Bosnia, and Herzegovina and Montenegro). A total of 16.422 questionnaires were analysed comprising data collected about children aged < 5 years. Logistic regression analysis was performed to identify the association between social determinants of health and growth indicators. Results:In the Western Balkan countries, Roma children were nearly three times more likely to exhibit stunted and/or severely stunted growth compared to non-Roma children from the lowest wealth quintile. Serbian children (MICS 5) had a lower risk of stunted growth compared to children residing in Montenegro (MICS 5) and greater risk compared to Macedonian children (MICS 4)...en
